One of the most meaningful approaches in my work as a music educator is the Suzuki Method, also known as the mother-tongue approach: just as children learn to speak by listening to and imitating their parents, they can also learn music and play an instrument naturally, surrounded by encouragement and affection from their family.
Before actually playing the recorder, children develop essential skills such as attention, listening, rhythmic and melodic awareness, posture, body awareness, breathing, and musical expression, beginning with a pre-instrument — the “magic flute” — which prepares them for the “real flute.” 🥰
This learning journey is gradual and requires time, practice, and care, respecting each child’s pace and valuing every achievement along the way.
