Afoxé is a popular cultural expression of African origin that is very traditional in the Northeast of Brazil, whose dance and one of the musical instruments used share the same name.
Depending on where it is found, the afoxé instrument can vary in shape and in the materials used to make it. In general, the sound is produced by rotating the beads in the opposite direction of its handle. However, there are other sound possibilities that can also be explored with this instrument!
The afoxé is widely used in samba and other Brazilian musical styles, and it works very well when accompanying nursery rhymes and traditional song repertoires, as well as adding sound effects to stories, awakening curiosity and imagination in young children!
